FAQ
What is MedColl ?
MedColl is an anti-aging nutraceutical supplement containing biomedical Type I (CI) marine derived collagen and other potent anti-aging ingredients in the form of capsules.
The philosophy of MedColl combines innovative cosmetic knowledge with medical science.
What is Collagen ?
Collagen is a protein substance contained in all human and animal connective tissue. The word "kolla" is originally from the Greek word "glue". It is collagen that holds everything together and forms the main component of all body tissue - connective tissue.
Collagen occurs in many parts of the body and makes up more than 30% of the protein mass in the human organism. So far, scientists have only identified approximately 29 sub-types of collagen. In the human body, over 90% of the collagen is Type I (CI), which is skin, bone, organs, tendons, vascular and ligature.
And from a molecular perspective, "Tropocollagen" i.e. the collagen molecule, is a long fibrous protein and not globular like other proteins. It is assembled into bundles of collagen fibrils known as collagen fibres.
How MedColl works ?
MedColl aims to replenish the lost collagen systemically, throughout the body. As MedColl is taken orally it can exert its' effects and benefits at every extracellular level.
The collagen in MedColl is lyophilised marine collagen. Lyophilisation is the process whereby food, blood plasma concentrations or tissue samples or pharmaceuticals can be frezze dried whilst maintaining its' physical structure.
Since the molecular structure of this particular marine collagen used in MedColl is closest to that of the human collagen molecule, this likeness allows the usage of this lyophilised marine collagen in different medical areas without rejection problems, allergies or any other sign of intolerance.
MedColl works differently and has a rate of 98% bioavailability. Although as with all medications and supplements we always have to take into consideration patient variables, and the range may vary insignificantly, this applies to pharmacokinetics.
The biomedical collagen is then absorbed into the body and is able to provide the body with the necessary collagen required for the building and replication of new cell tissue and the repair of cell tissue damage.
Thus it exerts its effect, which results in the products' benefit;Systemic Collagen Supplementation at an extracellular level.
What makes MedColl unique?
Unlike the commercial collagen tablets available in the market, MedColl is not metabolised in the same manner.
Bioavailability rates vary dramatically between these commerical alternatives. The bioavailability percentage is the criteria given to a drug or supplement in evaluating how much is absorbed into the G.I (Gastro intestinal) tract. Most collagen or collagen / vitamin combination tablets sold on the market today range anywhere from 0% to 10%, as protein is broken down into amino acids by the body prior to absorbtion.
The bioavailablity rate of MedColl is 98%, of which is systemic.
Collagen Production
As we age the production of tropocollagen chains (when they twist into helices and finally fibrils) begins to decrease about 1.0% - 1.7% per year from about the 25th year of life. The foremost problem is rather "defective" service of collagen. So-called collagen filtration, or cross-weaved formations, advance resulting in increasing stiff and brittle collagen fibers. Collagen fibers decrease in number and in a precise level of organisation and density. This leads to a decreased level of active fibroblasts, which also create elastin, a sister protein of collagen responsible for the elasticity of the connective tissue.
Collagen synthesis is also enabled by vitamin C and is responsible for its production at every step. In-vitro studies have shown that prolonged exposure of cultures of connective tissue cells to ascorbate or ascorbic acid (vitamin C) induced an eight-fold increase in the synthesis of collagen. It assists in the formation of the polypeptide chains of procollagen. So in essence vitamin C is considered a "co-factor" in the production of collagen.
Interestingly, it is the body's own stress hormone Cortisol (hyrdocortisone) that causes the degradation of collagen in tissue into amino acids. Cortisol-induced collagen loss in the skin is ten times greater than in any other tissue.
What does collagen do?
It is one of the most important components in the human body, and is responsible for the strength, felxibility ans elasticity of the connective tissue of the skin, ligaments and tendons and is also responsible for some formation of the main bone component.
That is why collagen plays such an important role in that it allows the body's connective tissue to constantly expand ans contract without causing damage to the actual tissue.
Over time, as we use the connective tissue in our skin and throughout the body, it undergoes a change, known as collagen degradation, and this is due to the decrease of our natural collagen production and the natural aging process. On the skin of the face wrinkling occurs, causing static wrinkling, fine lines and dynamic wrinkles. They develop as we get older because natural substances such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid (HA) that provide the skin with structure and volume decrease with age. The loss of skin structure and volume means that the skin is less able to spring back to its initial positioning after facial expression and as a result wrinkling occurs.
Throughout the rest of the body's connective tissue, deterioration can occur, sometimes causing pain and mobility problems for the individual. For example; Rheumatic Arthritis
